I can see still saying "hey, that's a bright idea!", but how was an idea portrayed in print or in a newspaper cartoon before the invention of the light bulb? Today the lightbulb above someone's head indicates a "bright idea", but it would have no meaning to a person before that was invented.
I wonder how a thought was illustrated before the light bulb?
