Honoring Singles

I heard the best message on singlehood from the pulpit last Sunday. In fact it was the ONLY message on singles that I've ever heard!

Singles in the church are often overlooked. Singles ministries are usually made up of college aged kids that have not yet married, so those over 25, and not married, can often feel left out of the church family...as if they don't really belong. In fact, in the message Russ presented Sunday, he quoted one single as having pointed out that the singles ministries are often used as matchmaking opportunities, as if something is wrong with you if you are unmarried by the time you are 25 or 30 years old.

Russ said that there is a place for singles in the Church body and that it is Biblical! His message said to Honor Singles and I recommend a listen to it HERE.

He also said something profound at one point his message...that what we imagine heaven to be is what we worship. Think about that!

Brunettes or Redheads

Oh, the things teenagers do.

Katie sure is blessed to have quite the creative kid who chooses her friends very well.

EmilIE was over one night and she and Tif decided to make their own video with the webcam. They were just fooling around and started a debate over whether brunettes or redheads are "better"?

They cracked me up so bad in this video, that I edited in some titles and posted this to YouTube. (They never intended it to be seen by anyone outside of the household, but you know how that goes.)

The reviews are in and people find this hilarious, so check it out and see for yourself!

NOTE: EmilIE's name is spelled "IE" not with a "Y". Oops! My bad...sorry EmilIE!

Christian Blogosphere

Christian Blogosphere
Yay! We joined the Christian Blogosphere Blogroll. Check it out by clicking the "+" sign under CHRISTIAN BLOGOSPHERE in the menu on the right.

There's some blogs on the roll I'm familiar with, and a whole bunch more to investigate. If you would like to join, just click the picture and follow the very simple directions!

Speaking of The Blogosphere...Katie and I were recently featured on the local news because of this blog, Sisters' Weblog: It Bloggles the Mind! (For more info, see "Did You See Us On TV?")

I feel the TV station did a good job of telling the story of how our blog came to be and what our purpose is. You can listen to our interview HERE, or watch the VERY raw video of a video HERE.

Today a customer at work, whom I did not know, recognized me from the news spot. I thought that was cool! No paparazzi yet though! LOL

Well, that's all the news for today! It Bloggles the Mind!

The Walton's, an Abdication, and Gram

Tonight, while watching an episode of The Walton's, I was reminded briefly of my Gram and how much I miss her.

The episode, titled The Abdication, had weaved in the main storyline, another story that has it's grounding in World History, the abdication of Edward VIII of Britain in 1936. I was unfamiliar with this crisis, but on Walton's Mountain, the story was headline news and the whole family gathered around the radio one evening to listen to King Edward give his speech, abdicating the throne.King Edward VIII

I wondered aloud, "hey, was this really a world crisis of the day? I know, I'll ask my Gram" and then I immediately burst into tears as reality slapped me in the face.

I can't ask my Gram.

It will be so weird when I go home in a few weeks and Gram won't be there. I'm nervous about that.

I'm thankful for Google, because I have a wealth of information at my fingertips, but it's no Gram!

I miss my Gram.

How To Block MySpace Profile Songs

Thank you Andy Skelton! I don't know why I didn't search for a solution before now, but thanks to Andy Skelton I found out How to block MySpace profile songs. YAY!

Supposedly when editing a MySpace account, you can turn "off" the function that allows music to play on sites you visit. That hasn't worked for me, but there's a lot of things on MySpace that don't work for me...like importing address books, (but that's another story).

Andy Skelton's solution has worked:

Edit this file: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (try /etc/hosts if it’s not Windows). Add the following as a new line and save the file.

0.0.0.0 lads.myspace.com

This may not take effect immediately. You can run ipconfig /flushdns to make Windows obey.

The nice thing about this method is that it works for any browser you have installed; no ad-blocking or proxy software is required.

Disclaimer: editing files that you don’t know from config.sys is risky. Your risk, not mine.

I HATE music on sites, with a passion! Katie gets tired of hearing me say everyday, just after some song starts playing, "grrrrrrrrr, I HATE music on sites!"

Why do I hate music on sites while I am surfing?
  1. I'm already listening to my own choice of music
  2. I don't like YOUR music, if I did, it would already be my choice of music!
My friend Katie says she likes music on sites, because she either likes the music or she might be introduced to something she hadn't heard before. I still say, then, if you want to share some music with people...GIVE US A CHOICE!

It's not hard say something like "Hey, I found a really neat new band. There music sounds like this and that. I like how the lead singer evokes an emotional response by the way he delivers a phrase, blah blah blah." Then give the reader the OPTION to listen. DON'T FORCE ME TO!

Truth is, when I come across music on a site, I leave immediately when it starts to play. Because you have music playing, I never read what you blogged about. Wonder how many great blogs go unread because the music you make us endure forced a large majority of us away from your page?

Did You See Us On TV?

Hey! Thanks for dropping by the Sisters' Weblog! It seems we have a few new visitors since we made our television debut tonight! Whew! I was nervous a bit about how our hour and a half interview would come together into a two minute segment on the news, but I think it turned out well. Sue and Katie on WBBJ
>>>>INSERTED: CLICK HERE TO SEE A VIDEO OF OUR TV INTERVIEW<<<<<

Here's a pic of what we looked like on tv. I'm hoping to get the actual video of it to post, because they actually included some of the parts where I talked about Ganns, my friend in the Phillipines, and the atheist that we communicated with a few years ago about matters of faith. I tried to take a video with my camera of the tv, but that doesn't work out so well...you get all those black lines that float throughout the frame. What is that anyway? Half the time we looked like talking torsos. LOL

There was only one thing that was reported in error, and that was the part where the reporter said I, Sue, was from Kansas. I am not from Kansas. I have never been to Kansas. My sister lived in Kansas for a short while, like 6 months, but he wouldn't have known that, and it really has nothing to do with me. Anyway, Katie and I figured out why the error happened. After the "shoot" two weeks ago, we were talking with Brad Douglass and the camerawoman about our story and mentioned how we met on the Internet. We gave them a quick rundown of some of the interesting things that happened to bring me to TN and they said "Wow! See! All the really interesting stuff comes AFTER the interviews!" So, I think they tried to recall what we said and got most of it right, just not the Kansas part.

I actually moved here from Iowa, although my home is Ohio.

Oh, you can read that interesting story about how we met and became friends by clicking HERE. Yeah, we posted the interview my dog Whyzer did one day about how Katie and I became friends. (Yep, you read that right!) You can find out even more about us by looking in the menu on the right under each of our names and then click "take a closer look" and that will open a menu and you can follow the links to various bio pages and other sites.

What you will find on the pages of Sisters' Weblog: It Bloggles the Mind! are many things. We share about day to day things, sometimes just the silly things that we do or we might share about spiritual lessons we have learned or are in the process of learning. We want to glorify God by using this blog as a vehicle to share our faith in Christ, that is our main goal. We can be theologically deep at times, and just plain silly in other moments...but that is because we only try to be who God created us to be. God loves the sound of our laughter and holds our hearts in the palm of His hand when we hurt. He is the reason we are friends, and to Him be the glory!

Here is a file of the transcript of "The Blogosphere" if you care to read the interview as it was presented in the television segment. Like I said, we hope to get a video of the interview asap!

If you saw us on the news, let us know what you thought by leaving a comment! We'd love to hear from you. If you just happened by, leave a comment too! We'd like to meet you!

That's My Boy!!!!

I have a confession...

Today, my head filled up with so much pride that I thought it might just pop! My son performed with the JCS high school band in concert. I had NO idea how much he had improved since the last time I watched him perform at Quad state last year. He made me cry!

He was given an award for the most improved student and I can see why. I was flabbergasted by his performance. He played so different from any other time I have seen him. He played with power and charisma! He played all kinds of percussion instruments as I sat there amazed. Aside from the encouragement of his band director, he has had some awesome mentors in band for the past year or so. He loves being on the drum line and wants it to be the best!

His band teacher has sent several emails this year telling me about how much he has been progressing. But today, the words Mr. Bridges shared in front of all those people made me cry. He set the stage to announce the award recipient and then................IT WAS MY SON! MY CHILD! It was my son he was talking about when he said he was already an outstanding musician, but that he had never seen someone grow so much musically in such a short time as this person (my son) has. He said he is someone who is very willing to help other people, someone who is a very kind Christian person. (These are the times that make all the hard times vanish.) Then he said my son's name when he announced who the award went to! I wanted to stand up and shout..."THAT'S MY BOY!!!!!" I cried today. I cried as I watched him perform and I cried as I watched him receive his award. Then I cried when I realized that the most awesome drum line feature didn't take on the recording!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I was walking around I could hear people talking about him. One lady even stopped him and raved about his performance. I had to tell her, "That's my boy!"

If pride is sinful then I must be the worst sinner of all tonight!

Fun With Webcams

It was late, it was time for bed, but nooooooo, we decided to play around with the webcam!

No we are NOT on drugs!

We don't normally look like this!

We don't normally behave like this, well....uhhhh, maybe a little. We do like to laugh! THAT'S FOR SURE!

So this video will give you a little bit of insight as to what goes on around here when Katie and I are together. The thing that cracked Sue up so much was what Katie said about having too much "recipe". That is in reference to a running storyline on The Waltons. (We are big Walton's fans in this household.) The "recipe" is moonshine that the Baldwin sisters offer to guests in their home. The still, and the "recipe", was left to them by their well-respected father, Judge Baldwin, and in their innocence they don't know that what the "recipe" is. They just believe it is a tasty, refreshing drink and kindly offer to people who DO know what it is, but no one wants to let them in on the "secret".

This video, I guess, is also a bit of a "preview" as to what we will look like this upcoming Tuesday, when the Sisters' Weblog will be featured on "The Blogosphere", a news special on WBBJ, the local ABC tv affiliate.

Wow...I'm so embarrassed. LOL
